Frequently Asked Questions
What attracted spiders to my house?
Most spiders are predators and they will feed on a variety of insects, arthropods, or other spiders that have often been attracted by unsanitary property conditions. Heaps of debris, overgrown gardens, dusty attics, and other secluded spots also make for perfect spider shelters.
Are spiders dangerous in the UK?
There are more than 650 different spider species in the country. With that said, the common varieties that tend to live in houses will not bite unless they are provoked. However, be very wary of false widow spiders, as their bite can cause severe swelling and discomfort.
What do spiders eat in the house?
As mentioned, spiders like to prey on frequently encountered pests, for example cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, and moths. However, if they come across another spider, they will often fight to the death until eventually one of them is defeated, becoming a meal for the victor.
Do spiders need to drink water?
Most spiders require a daily intake of water in order to survive. Depending on the species, spiders can obtain the liquid by drinking droplets on vegetation, eating their own dew-cowered web, making special burrows to capture raindrops, or extract the liquid straight from their prey.
